About This Residence Status
A residence status that can generally be applied for after 10 or more years of stay (including 5 or more years on a work or residence-based status). Requires meeting 3 conditions: 'good conduct', 'ability to earn an independent livelihood', and 'permanent residence is in Japan's interests'. Once obtained, no renewal is needed; only the residence card is renewed.
